FAMILIARISATION SESSIONS

This program is for children enrolled at Roberts McCubbin P.S for 2009.

The four sessions enable children to become familiar with the school environment, meet various teachers, visit different classrooms and experience a range of activities in multi-aged groupings.

INTEGRATED INQUIRY

What is Inquiry Learning?

The Integrated Inquiry is a learner centred approach in which students actively investigate significant questions and issues about how the world works. In the Junior school at Roberts McCubbin we are committed to providing a variety of experiences that actively engage our children. We encourage children to solve problems and be risk takers in their educational journey. Inquiry learning provides us with a vehicle to facilitate exciting, student lead opportunities.

Our Approach to Inquiry Learning:

Over the three years the children spend in the junior school at R.M.P.S they will develop their understanding of inquiry as they investigate 12 units of work. The units of work have been developed in accordance with the VELS (Victorian Education and Learning Standards). We have ensured that we have provided a balanced range of curriculum areas throughout the three years. An inquiry unit guides the children through: tuning in, finding out, sorting out, going further and reflecting and acting on the knowledge they have developed based on the topic. We offer children first hand experiences through relevant incursions and excursions from experts, (this is where you come in!) If you have any knowledge or prior experiences related to any of our inquiries we’d love you to have a guest in our classrooms.
