Year 5/6 News

How was the sun created?

As part of our Why Earth? inquiry unit, we have been exploring the different elements of our planet and solar system. We learnt that many years ago, before the advent of science, people created fables and stories to explain the mysteries of the universe. In our writing sessions, the 5/6 students had a go at writing their own. Here are a few...

A Fun Sun by Katherine T

Two angels live in the sky on opposite sides of the world. They both loved to play catch and they didn’t let the distance stop them.

Everyday they would throw the bright yellow ball to each other lighting up the sky. Eventually they would grow tired and go to sleep plunging the Earth into darkness.

The Sun and the Moon  by Paul C

The sun and the moon were best friends. They would do anything for each other. The sun was energetic and the moon was lazy. So the sun flew up into the sky in the day to say hello and the moon flew up at night and made it dark and he slept and so did everyone else.

The Cursed Sun by Naomi H

Long ago there were two planets the Earth and Sun.

On the planets they each had a god. God of Earth was named Eth and the Sun god was named Sol.

One day Sol decided he wanted to take over planet Earth. Sol used his magic to try and spin the sun around to the west so he could get close enough to catch Eth.

Eth found out about this he was so upset he made everyone boil on sun, the seas on Sun turned red with the blood with the extra liquid on the planet the seas over flowed and covered the whole planet Eth lit the planet on fire and poured lava over the surface so no one could survive.

Eth set a curse upon Sun that day that it would keep on burning and bubbling for billions and billions of years.

Of course Sol did not succeed his quest so the sun kept on spinning heating earth in some parts of the year and creating bright light when facing the Earth.

Some people on Sun and escaped on the round rocket called Moon. It was shaped like a ball; it was only visible in the dark when the sun had gone to the other side of the Earth. Though they did not get far because they ran out of fuel, so now it is stuck in space forever never moving. Now people call it the moon.

The Sun and Moon Engagement Party by Tom M

Long ago the Sun was engaged with the moon. One day they had a big fight and they broke up. So in the day the Sun lived in the sky and the moon lived on the ground and they swap every day and night.

Eight Fire Gods by Josie B

One day a god gave birth to 8 kids. He let each kid out for one day but not all of them because they were too small. The earth was so cold that people couldn’t live. So one day the oldest brother asked why our father doesn’t let us all play out side in one day. Let’s come out together.” So they played each day together in a cycle. The 8 small suns joined together and warm up the earth and gave the light to us.

The Marshmellowmens by Maddy H

Back in the time of GUM BC , the marshmellownens believed that the Sun, (or what they liked to call it ‘ the Spicy Gobstopper’) got picked up out of its packet from the east and Jelly bean Jesus took his time and slowly brought it over to the West, where his face was. As he ate it, it would be night time. He would suck it all night and the next day he would start again!
